Prix Espoir Scientifique for Claire Berton-Carabin, winner of the Lauriers 2022 INRAE competition

Claire Berton-Carabin, Director of Research in the BIA Unit, Interfaces and Dispersed Systems (ISD) team, was awarded the Prix Espoir Scientifique for her research into lipids and emulsions that contribute to a healthy and sustainable diet at the INRAE LAURIERS 2022 ceremony.

Each year, the Lauriers d'INRAE honours the wealth of talent and career paths at INRAE. Philippe Gillet, Chairman of INRAE's Scientific Advisory Board, presented the ‘Laurier Espoir scientifique’, awarded to a recently recruited scientist for his or her promising work, to Claire Berton-Carabin, Research Director in the BIA unit's Interfaces and Dispersed Systems team.

Claire Berton-Carabin is interested in food emulsions, mixtures of two immiscible liquids, such as oil and water, which can be stabilised by a third ingredient, the emulsifier. He has a wealth of international experience and numerous collaborations to his credit. She is supported by a team of experts in the fields of plant proteins and lipids. Claire is now focusing on the microstructure of these emulsions and their key components, with a desire to do more and do it differently: stabilising particles of plant origin or of solid nature and bio-based, fragmentation processes with low environmental impact... These ambitious projects, which combine health and sustainability, have earned him the INRAE Scientific Hope Award.
