A virtuous circular economy

Market garden waste for bio-sourced materials used by market gardeners: a virtuous circular economy

Growing tomatoes in glasshouses generates a lot of waste, combining plant waste and plastic accessories that cannot be composted. This mixed waste represents millions of tonnes per year in Europe, and incineration is costly both economically and environmentally.

The SOLUSERRE project proposes to use the biomass of tomato plant waste as reinforcements to develop new degradable and injectable composite materials to replace traditional fossil-based plastics in the production of the clips and bunch holders used by market gardeners.
